Privacy Policy

Mac Help For Mom greatly values your privacy. I’m pretty sure that I hate spam even more than you (okay, we can call it a tie) so I will guard your personal information like it was my own or my mom’s.

Information Collected by This Site

There are only three ways this site gathers any personal information about you.

(1) If you sign up for the Mac Help For Mom weekly email newsletter (which I highly suggest you do), the system will retain your name and email address.

(2) If you submit a question through the website, I need your email address so I can contact you if I need more details about your question. Your email address will not be sold or shared with anyone. Your name is optional but it does help me address you politely.

(3) If you leave a comment on the website, I require you enter your name and email address. Your name will be displayed with your comment but your email address will NOT. Your email address will not be sold or shared with anyone. Don’t put anything in a comment that you don’t mind everyone seeing.

Every comment you submit on the website or through email to me becomes the property of Mac Help For Mom. That means that I could republish them (with or without editing) in any form. If your name is Betty Boop and you don’t want your full name to show up in any future publications (or on the website), then just enter your name as Betty. It also means that I may remove any comment any time. So don’t be a jerk.

Information Collected by Other Services

Like most websites, Mac Help For Mom relies on other Internet-based services to display parts of what you see on these pages. Here are a few examples.

I want my videos to play as smoothly as possible so I use YouTube to deliver them because they have about a million more computers than I do. As such, YouTube can track how you view those videos. YouTube cannot track any other part of this site, just what happens within the rectangles containing those YouTube videos.

My time is better spent making more educational videos than finding advertisers so I use Google AdSense (and possibly others in the future) to place relevant ads on the site. Like most services like this, Google uses cookies (tiny data files placed on your computer) to select ads based on your prior visits to Mac Help For Mom. Google also uses something called a DART cookie (which is neither sharp nor sweet) so they and their partners can display ads based on other sites you’ve visited on the Internet. If that freaks you out, you can tell them “no thanks” by going here and following their directions. Personally, I don’t mind this because as their system improves I see more and more relevant ads as I surf the web.

I use Google Analytics to show me how people are using the site so I can continue to make it more useful. This does not let me see what individuals are doing on the site, just overall statistics like what the most popular pages are, how people are finding the site, what Internet browsers people are using, etc. You can read more about Google Analytics’ privacy policy here.

If you sign up for the Mac Help For Mom weekly email newsletter, your subscription will be processed by AWeber. I use them to deliver all your newsletter emails because their rock-solid reputation allows them to be the best at getting those emails into your inbox and not accidentally filed in your spam or junk folder. You can learn more about their policies here.

Children’s Privacy

If you are under 13 years old, do not enter any information on this website. If you want to ask a question, make a comment, or subscribe to the email newsletter, then you must get your parent or guardian to do it. Don’t worry. I suspect they’ll be happy that you want to learn how to use your Mac better.
